2023 OUTLOOK:

Cathedral generally re-loads year-after-year and there’s no reason to believe they won’t do the same in 2023. It all starts with QB Danny O’Neil. The Colorado recruit is the key to Cathedral’s potent offense (62.9% passer, 2,654 yards, 32 TDs; 293 rushing yards, nine TDs). O’Neil will have TE Zach Meeks (35 catches, 412 yards, three TDs) as the lone huge target to throw to. Coach Peebles will also count on WR’s Keith Long, Devaughn Slaughter, RB’s Desare’ Thomas and Jalen Bonds. Evan Triggs and Billy Neale are the keys on the offensive line.

On defense the Irish lose a ton of talent. Now they will look to DL DeVaughn Perkins, DL Jackson Weingart (54 tackles, 11 ½ tackles for loss, 6 ½ sacks), DL Hosia Smith (34 tackles, four sacks), DB Jack Lockhart (40 tackles), LB’s Aiden Hughes and Oscar Kirch (77 tackles, six tackles for loss).

The Fighting Irish will get tested early with a match-up against Lafayette Jeff at Lucas Oil Stadium and then a trip to Brownsburg in week two. The schedule is a killer, but it will prepare Cathedral for another run at a state title.
