2023 OUTLOOK: The Bears are headed in the right direction under second year Head Coach Will Patterson. There has been steady improvement over the last three seasons including a 5-6 campaign in 2022. Remember, this is the team that went 0-10 in 2020.
Coach Patterson has plenty of weapons on both sides of the football including QB Bryson Luter (1,415 passing yards, 11 TDs; 491 rushing yards, six TDs in just eight games). Luter will have one of the best in the area in WR Ahmaad Duff (48 catches, 1,000 yards, nine TDs; 272 rushing yards, one TD). Also you can count on WR Desmond Coleman RB Caron Parks, RB Makai Chaney, RB Chron Harrison and WR Demarcus Cole. Albert Gooden III will also get a good opportunity on the offensive side of the football.
On defense the Bears lost a lot of talent, but they returns some very exceptional pieces including LB Mataio Russell (139 tackles, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions), DB D.J. Morton (61 tackles, two interceptions), DL Bryan Robertson (27 tackles, four sacks), DL Reid Hardin (53 tackles, 10 ½ tackles for loss), DT Robert Beasley (26 tackles) and LB Sean Fox.
The Bears aren’t quite ready for the likes of HSE or Cathedral, but with some breaks they have every chance to have a winning record this season. HSE is no longer on the schedule as they were replaced by Indy Tech in the season opener…that’s a win!!
