Avon got their man and the school board approved him Friday night. Former Centerville standout Drew Schauss coached at Logansport, where he led the Berries to a 20-26 record over the past two seasons.

“We are excited to announce coach Schauss as the next boys basketball coach at Avon High School,” athletic director Josh Larsh said in a release. “His teams are known for their toughness on defense and unselfish play. Coach Schauss is not just a basketball coach but is committed to building a family atmosphere within the entire Avon athletic department.”

Schauss played  three seasons at Brevard College (N.C.)  then transferred to Bethel College for his senior season. He coached at Bethel, Holy Cross College and John Brown University (Ark.) then returned to Bethel as a full-time assistant.

“Respected (college and high school) coaches spoke highly of Drew’s skills and abilities,” Avon principal Matt Shockley said in a release. “Reference checks and the interview process point to Drew having a ‘high ceiling’ as a teacher and a coach. We are excited about him joining our PE department and leading our boys basketball program for years to come.”
