VS. ANDERSON

ANDERSON — Lafayette Jeff lived up to its reputation as one of Indiana high school football’s top offenses on Friday night.

Maximus Grimes threw five touchdown passes in the first half, and the Bronchos broke their record for points in a North Central Conference game with a 76-0 victory against Anderson.

Lafayette Jeff’s previous NCC high came in a 73-37 victory, also at Anderson, on Sept. 19, 1997.

Junior Damonte Coleman scored the record-breaking touchdown, a 2-yard run with 45 seconds remaining.

Grimes was 21 of 24 passing for 367 yards. The Bronchos’ running game was equally effective, picking 323 yards on 37 carries.

Sophomore running back Thomas Hogan had two 1-yard touchdown runs and caught a TD pass in the first half, which saw the Bronchos take a 49-0 lead.  Grimes also threw two touchdowns apiece to Brian Jenkins (29 yards, 6 yards) and Zion Austin (2, 5).

The Bronchos (5-1) played their reserves in the second half, with freshman quarterback Brady Preston accounting for three scores in the third quarter. He found Anthony Fancher for a 5-yard TD pass and ran for a 9-yard touchdown to make it 62-0. Preston then threw a 18-yard touchdown to Coleman.
