Seton Catholic Varsity Soccer won their first conference championship today
in thrilling fashion. The Cardinals welcomed #7 Greenwood Christian to
Freeman Park to decide who would be the 2018 PAAC Champions.
Greenwood lead 1-0 at the break, and scored another early in the second
half, but Seton Catholic and the boys of never responded the only way they
know how, stay together and just win baby.
With just under 15 minutes to play Nate Dickman scored on a PK making it
2-1 Greenwood, and then minutes later Jacob Royer redirected a ball from
Noah Heyne to level the game 2-2.
As minutes ticked away Sam Brenneke found himself in scoring range after
the Greenwood defense turned the ball over, and like that Seton went up 3-2
with 1:30 left to play. Not to be outdone by his older brother, Will
Brenneke had eight saves on the day, and none bigger than the final play in
which Greenwood brought in all eleven to attack a corner kick where to ball
found its mark, but Will, fearless as ever, jumped straight into the fray
and came down with the ball firmly in hand as the final seconds ticked off
Seton Catholic travels to Oldenburg on Monday 9/17 to play the new 1A #1
