The Bulldogs picked up a win in their second match of the Boise State Classic Friday, sweeping Eastern Washington in three sets.

Butler won the match by a score of 28-26, 25-20, 25-22.

With the result, Butler is now 5-3 on the season, while Eastern Washington falls to 3-4.

SET 1: Butler 28-26

EWU was able to climb back into the first set, overcoming a 23-17 deficit to eventually tie the set at 24-24. Butler was able to turn away two set points and then took the final three points in a 28-26 win. Butler had five blocks in the first set and were keyed by five kills apiece from Amina Shackelford and Mariah Grunze.

SET 2: Butler 25-20

After getting down by a score of 7-1, Butler fought back to take the lead and stretch it to 18-11. Megan Sheridan had six kills on 10 swings in the set. Butler limited EWU to .028 hitting in the frame. 

SET 3: Butler 25-22

The third set included 19 ties and six lead changes. The last tie came at 19-19 before Butler claimed the next three points. Sheridan solidified the result with a match point kill. Butler hit .452 in the third set, while EWU countered with a .364 clip. Sheridan (7), Grunze (6) and Shackelford (5) combined for 18 kills.

STAT OF THE MATCH: Megan Sheridan led three Bulldogs in double figures with 17 kills on .485 hitting. As a team, Butler hit .298 in the match.


Mariah Grunze had 15 kills and Amina Shackelford also reached double figures with 11.

Jaymeson Kinley had a team-best 18 digs.

Setter Cora Taylor had 36 assists for Butler.

The Bulldogs had nine blocks in the contest, holding a 9-3 advantage. Shackelford, Marisa Guisti and Autumn Flowers were each part of four blocks.
